May / June 2010 - BBC Springwatch 2010 -Once again we're live webcasting for the BBC with the famous "Springwatch Webcams", in Flash for the web and to mobile devices (3GP and progressive http for iPhone, iPod-Touch and iPad).
October 2009 - Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival 2009 - Springwatch won "Best 360 Campaign" and Big Cat Live won "Best Web Presence"!
September/October 2009 - BBC Autumnwatch 2009 - Conspiring Minds managed the live outside broadcast on the web, for the BBC's Autumnwatch series, from the Scottish island of Rum. 3 remote Bradley Engineering CamBalls were used to cover the climax of the Red deer rutting season from this tough location.
May/June 2009 - BBC Springwatch 2009 - Conspiring Minds implemented 5 live 24/7 Flash streams for one month, for the BBC's Multiplatform Springwatch series. Phil gets a mention on the Springwatch Blog.
March 2009 - Media Innovation Award Winner! - Big Cat Live picked up the Multiplatform Innovation Award at the Media Innovation Awards held in Bristol! We were there with the BBC team to collect the award.
January 2009 - BBC Earth Project - Project Managing the implementation of an HD capable edit and ingest station for the Earth Project.
November 2008 - BBC BIG CAT LIVE - Phil has returned back from the Masai Mara, where he organised the groundbreaking 24/7 webcasting utilising Digital Rapids StreamZ XS Live Flash encoders.
To relay the 5 live Flash streams, we used a 1.8 metre VSAT antenna with iDirect SCPC modem to uplink to Intesat 706 on KU band. The live audio and video streams were then distributed for the BBC via Akamai.
September 2008 - IBC 2008 - We were at IBC to scout around for new technology and interesting developments. One thing that did catch our eye was the ultra small new fold-away VSAT dishes currently available as X-Band only by Gigasat. This new generation of dishes will have enormous impact on the broadcast market over the next two years, when available in Ku and C Band flavours.
August 2008 - Inmarsat to increase speed of BGAN IP streaming - Following on from announcements by Thuraya and Iridium, the portable IP satellite streaming market is hotting up. Following the successful launch of the reamining I-4 satellite, Inmarsat are rumoured to be doubling the IP streaming capacity of their BGAN platform. The satellite array will be reconfigured in January 2009, leading to some loss of connectivity for a short time.
July 2008 - Oceans and Frozen Planet - We provided kit and consultancy to both Oceans and Frozen Planet production crews ahead of their location shoots, to enable them to send back AV material from remote locations.
June 2008 - BBC Springwatch - We set up the live web streaming for this years Springwatch from both Heligan and Norfolk sites. The 6 live web cam streams were run 24/7 for 3 weeks using Digital Rapids and Viewcast encoders over ADSL Max (rate adaptive DSL) and VSAT connections provided by DC-Sat.Net, utilising the Real Media format and the BBC/Siemens distribution architecture at Redbus.
